360Giving Data Standard
For open data to be really useful it has to follow an agreed format – a standard – so it can be easily compared with data from other organisations. We have developed the 360Giving Data Standard for this purpose: so that people can have a more informed understanding of the UK grantmaking picture.
What is the 360Giving Data Standard?
The 360Giving Data Standard is a uniform and consistent way to describe grantmaking data. It consists of a set of information fields that must be included when a grantmaking organisation shares grants data. Organisations publishing grant information using the Data Standard use the same formatting so the data can be easily understood, collated and compared by anyone. Data published using the 360Giving Data Standard can be located and ‘read’ easily by different applications and machines.
The 360Giving Data Standard is:
- Open data driven – providing a common way to share information on grantmaking
- Easy to use – with a simple spreadsheet format for publishing and consuming data, backed up by a structured data model
- Comprehensive – providing a 360 degree view of grantmaking and supporting in-depth analysis of grants, grantees and beneficiaries
The 360Giving Standard documentation contains an overview of the Standard’s schema, which describes each of the fields and their data formatting rules. The documentation also provides information on topics such as identifiers, data protection and licensing.
